PLANNING: Treatment
Treatment
I have
decided to name my Urban/Hip-Hop/ R&b magazine ‘ALPHA’. This is because this
word defines dominance and power which briefly sums the characteristics of
these collaborations of genre of music.
The front
cover of the magazine would have a main image which would also be used as the
background. The main image on the front cover would be of a celebrity, as the
cover storey image, who is well known within that industry of music to enhance
the sense surveillance and aspiration as it provides further interest for the
target audience. The celebrities would have an aggressive look which conforms
to the aggressive nature of this music, and the women would models would also
look aggressive with a sexualised element to it. This image would be taken as a
mid or close up which will engage with the audience in a way that they will
feel equal to the individuals in the magazine. I would prefer for the front
cover to also consist of sub stories images to illustrate the sub stories in an
interactive way. Anchorage text will accompany these sub images which gives
clarity and understanding as well as pull quotes. I will also include a
strapline across the top of the magazine.

RESEARCH: Proposal
Proposal
After conducting a series of research on music magazines, user targets and important features and conventions of a music magazine, I have initially decided to produce a magazine on the 'HipHop and R&B' genre as they are two most popular genres of music magazines .Not only did they receive roughly the same amount of votes, but due to there modern and similar nature of the music and artists, I think that it would be straight forward trying to in cooperate the two genres together by using a star to give a sense of aspiration which allows the audience feel a sense of recognition and comfort.By doing this I can use the well known persona to promote the magazine further. My results from my survey shows that my most likely user target is young people from their mid to late teenage years as they are shown to be the people that are mostly interested in music magazines as my graphs show. However due to the fact that males mainly liked the Hip Hop aspects and females preferred the R&B side, I would need to make sure the magazine is produced in a way that both gender types can relate to the magazine. I intend for my magazine to have an urban but classy feel to it and include images of local and more mainstream celebrities so that the audience can become more intrigued to see them feature in my magazine.
I would want my magazine to demonstrate a lot of bold characters and show forth the conventions that would make a successful music magazine, specifically to Hip-Hop and R&B. For instance I will include bold text and colour schemes with font styles to match the type of aesthetic character I want the magazine to portray. I will want the front cover to cover many points and exciting subheadings in very minimal text. This is because if the text becomes too much, my user target would become bored which could lead to them loosing focus and interest in reading more. Also I would need to ensure that my contents page is yet straight forward and easy to read but also stylish, quite informative and matches the features and schemes represented in the front cover. Furthermore I would want my magazine to be released monthly as it is shown in my research to be the most common interval for audiences to get a new issue of a magazine. This can be indicated in its name.
The magazine would include a price tag and a bar code.
